Ingredients

1/2 cup warm water

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

3 to 4 cups bread flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)


Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of warm water with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast. Stir and let bloom for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Stir in 1 cup of whole milk and 1/4 cup of vegetable oil.

3. Gradually add 3 cups of bread flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

4. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes, adding up to 1 more cup of flour until the dough is smooth and elastic.

5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.

6. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it into a greased 9×5-inch pan. Let it rise for another 30 to 45 minutes.

7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

8. Brush with 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional) for a glossy finish.

Notes

Ensure water is about 110°F to activate the yeast properly.

Don’t over-knead; stop when the dough becomes smooth and springs back.

Let the loaf cool completely before slicing to prevent squishing.
