Tender beef patties simmered in rich mushroom-onion gravy and served over creamy mashed potatoes make for a hearty, satisfying meal that’s pure comfort. Whether you’re looking for quick dinner ideas, cozy comfort food, or simple meal prep for the week — this hits all the marks.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 cloves garlic, minced

8 ounces mushrooms, sliced

2 cups low-sodium beef broth

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

1. Mix ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, garlic, salt, and pepper. Shape into oval patties.

2. Sear patties in olive oil until browned on both sides. Remove from skillet.

3. In the same skillet, sauté onions and mushrooms in butter until soft and golden.

4. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.

5. Sprinkle in flour and stir well. Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring until smooth.

6. Return patties to the skillet. Simmer in gravy for 15–20 minutes, basting often.

7. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or noodles with plenty of gravy.

Notes

Use freshly minced garlic for best flavor.

Don’t overwork the meat mixture; it keeps the patties tender.

For extra richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end of cooking.
