Ingredients
1 sleeve saltine crackers
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons festive sprinkles or sea salt (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil. Spray lightly with non-stick spray and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and bring to a boil. Boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until glossy and slightly thickened.
3. Pour the hot toffee evenly over crackers. Use a spatula to spread quickly. Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly.
4. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let sit 2-3 minutes, then spread into an even layer.
5. Add sprinkles or sea salt while chocolate is melted. Chill in fridge for 1 hour until set.
6. Break into pieces by hand and serve or store.
Notes
Don’t skip the 3-minute toffee boil—it ensures the right texture.
For a nutty version, add chopped pecans on top of the chocolate before chilling.
Store with parchment between layers to avoid sticking.
