Description

Best Layered Black Forest Trifle is a showstopping easy dessert layered with moist chocolate cake, sweet cherries, fluffy whipped cream, and rich chocolate shavings. It is perfect for holiday dessert tables, dinner parties, Christmas gatherings, and make-ahead dessert planning when you want easy recipe ideas, dessert ideas, food ideas, and a crowd-pleasing treat that looks impressive but comes together with simple steps.

Ingredients

4 cups chocolate cake, cut into cubes

1 can cherry pie filling

2 cups sweet cherries, drained

3 cups heavy whipping cream

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon kirsch or cherry juice

1/2 cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

1. Cut the chocolate cake into bite-size cubes and set aside.

2. Beat the softened cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.

3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture until light and fluffy.

4. Spoon a layer of chocolate cake cubes into the bottom of a trifle dish.

5. Lightly drizzle some kirsch or cherry juice over the cake layer.

6. Add a layer of cherry pie filling and some whole cherries.

7. Spread a thick layer of the cream mixture over the cherries.

8. Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with cream on top.

9. Garnish with extra cherries and chocolate shavings.

10. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

Use slightly firm cake so the layers stay distinct and do not turn mushy.

Chill the trifle long enough so the flavors blend and the cream sets nicely.

Add the chocolate shavings just before serving for the prettiest finish and best texture.
