Description

This Caramelized Onion Dip is a creamy, savory appetizer that turns simple ingredients into something deeply flavorful and seriously craveable. Sweet golden onions, cream cheese, sour cream, and a touch of Worcestershire come together in an easy recipe that fits everything from party food ideas to holiday snack boards. It is one of those easy appetizer recipes that works for game day, casual entertaining, quick snack spreads, and make-ahead food ideas when you want something rich, smooth, and full of comfort.

Ingredients

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 garlic clove, minced

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt.

2. Cook the onions slowly for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring often, until they are deeply golden, soft, and caramelized.

3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then remove the pan from the heat and let the onions cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

4. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and black pepper until smooth.

5. Fold in the cooled caramelized onions and chopped chives until evenly combined.

6. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour for the best flavor and texture.

7. Spoon into a serving bowl, garnish with extra chives if desired, and serve with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

Use medium-low heat for the onions so they turn sweet and golden instead of burning.

Let the onions cool before mixing them into the dairy base so the dip stays thick and creamy.

This dip tastes even better after a few hours in the fridge, so it is a great make-ahead appetizer.
