Description

Crispy Homemade Air Fryer French Fries are a quick side dish that delivers golden, crunchy fries with fluffy centers using just a handful of pantry ingredients and your trusty air fryer. This easy recipe is perfect for busy weeknights, game day snacking, or whenever you want a better-than-drive-thru fry fix at home.

Ingredients

2 large russet potatoes, scrubbed (about 1 1/2 pounds)

1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika or sweet paprika

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon dried parsley or chopped fresh chives, for serving (optional)

Instructions

1. Scrub the potatoes well and peel them if you prefer skin-off fries. Slice each potato into planks, then into even sticks about 1/4 inch thick so they cook evenly.

2. Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and soak for 15–30 minutes to remove excess surface starch and help the fries crisp.

3. Drain the potatoes and spread them on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Pat very dry, removing as much moisture as possible.

4. Transfer the dried fries to a dry mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss until every fry is lightly coated.

5. Sprinkle the fries with kosher salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Toss again so the seasoning coats all sides of the potatoes.

6. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes.

7. Arrange the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving a little space between them. Cook in batches if needed so the basket is not overcrowded.

8. Air fry for 15–18 minutes, shaking the basket or tossing the fries halfway through, until the fries are deep golden brown and crisp on the edges.

9. Taste and adjust the seasoning with a pinch more salt if needed.

10. Immediately sprinkle with dried parsley or fresh chives and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For extra-crispy fries, extend the soak time to 30 minutes and be sure the potatoes are completely dry before adding oil and seasoning.

Every air fryer cooks a little differently, so start checking the fries a few minutes early the first time you make them and adjust timing as needed.

Customize the seasoning to your taste—add cayenne for heat, swap in a Cajun blend, or finish the hot fries with grated Parmesan for cheesy garlic fries.
